Propretor \Pro*pre"tor\, n. [L. propraetor; pro for, before +
   praetor a pretor.] (Rom. Antiq.)
   A magistrate who, having been pretor at home, was appointed
   to the government of a province. [Written also
   {propr[ae]tor}.]
