benzidine dyes

Congo group \Con"go group\ [From {Congo red}.]
   A group of artificial dyes with an affinity for vegetable
   fibers, so that no mordant is required. Most of them are azo
   compounds derived from benzidine or tolidine. Called also

   {benzidine dyes}.
